Ky-Mani Marley Album CoverFeb. 4 /PRNewswire/ Son of the Legendary Bob Marley, Ky-Mani Pens His Personal, Controversial Memoir, Dear Dad: "Where's The Family In Our Family, Today?" The Story the Marley Family Apparently Doesn't Want You to Know. Available now on Amazon and in book stores to coincide with Bob Marley's 65th birthday February 6, 2010.

According to Fortune magazine, the Bob Marley estate generates as much as $600 million, and by 2012, it is expected to generate in excess of $1 Billion--making Bob Marley the richest deceased celebrity. With all the wealth, the acclaim and the legacy, why would the Marley family try to censor a true life story written by of one of Bob Marley's sons--who many say is the son who best resembles his father's extraordinary talent? In fact, the Marley family is so outraged over the publishing of this memoir they lodged a campaign of intimidation over Ky-Mani Marley as the author of this book, unless the thus far forsaken and ostracized son of Bob Marley rewrites the truth and omits the sometimes harsh realities of his being excluded from the Marley family's affairs and events, and of intentionally being denied the love and attention enjoyed by the other children. They also demand that he confirm and showcase such distortions during his interviews and the highly awaited book tour.

Ky-Mani's publisher, Dr. Farrah Gray, defends the memoir and the author's right to disclose and describe the story of his life, even if it exposes situations and episodes the Marley estate prefers not to reveal. Gray's position is based on his personal commitment to the truth and is also grounded in law. Legal authorities confirm the publisher's right to pursue a claim of 'tortious interference' --a civil action that could possibly deem the Marley estate liable for damages caused by its threats to Marley's son. Injunctive relief is also being considered.

"Family politics can be a straight bitch. It can flow deep. And it can cut deep. You have to understand what I'm calling family politics. It was family politics that gave me all of the growing-up experiences I have detailed in this book," said Ky-Mani Marley.

The truth--and this book--will not be stopped. Published to coincide with Bob Marley's birthday, Dear Dad: "Where's The Family in Our Family, Today?" The Story the Marley Family Apparently Doesn't Want You to Know (Farrah Gray Publishing; February 6, 2010; ISBN-13: 978-0-9727-0999-6; $14.95; Original Trade Paperback), by world-renowned and Grammy®-nominated recording and performing artist, Ky-Mani Marley--Bob Marley's tenth child--is a compelling biographical account of a son who was locked out of his iconic father's shelter after his death, and forced to survive poverty and run-ins with the street-predators of Miami's violent ghetto. Ky-Mani grew up estranged from his siblings, and also cut out of any financial gain by Marley's widow and manager of the Marley Estate. This compelling narrative chronicles young Ky-Mani's gritty ascent from a bullet-riddled life to the world stages he now commands as a musical artist--a platform he has made on his own

Ky-Mani performs songs of redemption around the world like his famous father did, but has also lived to tell his personal redemptive story.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has brought more federal hate crimes cases this year than in any year since 2001, and an Obama administration official said Thursday he was "shocked" by the dropoff in prosecutions during the Bush years.

A total of 25 hate crime cases were filed for the budget year that ended in September, encompassing most of President Barack Obama's first year in office and the last few months of the Bush administration.

In 2001, there were 31 such cases filed. The number fell to a low of 12 in 2006, before starting to rise again, reaching 23 in 2008.

"I was rather shocked to see the downtick in prosecutions of hate crimes," said Tom Perez, head of the Justice Department's civil rights divisions.

ATLANTA, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- On December 18, Big Brothers Big Sisters and leaders of the network's Black Fraternity Coalition will meet in Atlanta (Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, 165 Courtland, 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) to develop a bold strategy and detailed plan aimed at giving African American boys every opportunity to succeed. Leaders of the nation's largest donor-supported volunteer mentoring network and their fraternity partners say they will significantly increase the number of African American Big Brothers, beginning in 2010.

The African American Mentoring summit, sponsored by the Arby's Foundation, is the second step in Big Brothers Big Sisters' announcement of its unprecedented collaboration with Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi and Omega Psi Phi fraternities aimed at getting more black men engaged in long-term mentoring. Recognizing that children of color, particularly African American boys, disproportionately represent children waiting to be matched, Big Brothers Big Sisters and its African American Roundtable (internal and external advisors) have made engaging black men a priority.

Over the last 20 years the words “Till death do us part” holds little to no credibility when saying vows of commitment to a spouse. About 50 percent of all married couples end in divorce and the rates heavily increase the second, third and even fourth time around. The number of unmarried couple households (live-ins) is increasing steadily and the ratio of marriages to divorces is 2 to 1.

What happened to the sanctity of marriage and why the vast increase in divorce? Well, let’s take a look at the ever-changing sexual revolution and the many changes in relationships that have altered the way we perceive intimacy and what marriage looks like in the 21st century.

The role of women has drastically changed especially in the black community, divorce has become a societal norm, and gay and lesbian liberation is continually on the rise.

Today’s women have their own money, hold positions of status without a man and are often left to raise their children in single parent families. Society as a whole has become so free and liberated that some would be lucky to even be in an honest, committed, lasting relationship without the worries of unfaithfulness.

If the sanctity of marriage keeps diminishing what kind of confused world will children to grow up in? Let’s look at what has already occurred. Over the last 20 years fertility rates have dropped because of the use of birth control pills and contraceptives, and disease rates have skyrocketed to enormous proportions.

Nationally, AIDS is the number one cause of death for African Americans between 25 and 44 years old. One in 50 black men and one in 160 black women are HIV-positive compared to one in 250 for white men and one in 3000 for white women.

It’s safe to say a positive and rapid change is needed within society, specifically in the black community.  African Americans need to reconnect with the traditional values that made them a strong united race in the past, if not with the birth rates down and disease rates up, the race is likely to become extinct.
